For this short film, we were given the task to make a short film with a duration of 5-10 minutes, a minimum of two characters and the use of no dialogue. This was difficult to come up with an idea for as I had to think of a creative yet realistic reason for there to not be any dialogue. After a lot of thinking, I came up with the concept of the main character being deaf and so there would be no need to talk to him. This concept also gave me the idea for the main plot of the film that due to his disability, he is put in a terrifying position.

ORIGINAL SCORE

As this film was not allowed dialogue, I was forced to use the camera and sound in order to create suspense. This is where my idea to use a custom score for the first time came from. After some research, I came across Olivia Crawford, an extremely talented music composer. We began discussing the themes of the film to get on the same page as to what the music should be like and to what kind of feel the music should capture. Olivia was able to capture the exact feel I wanted and she did so within a short space of time.
